Objectives
The learner will:
7-10-PE-1 Identify and follow the rules while playing sports and games.
7-10-PE-2 Correctly demonstrate activities designed to improve and maintain coordination, flexibility, and cardio-respiratory functioning.
7-10-PE-3 Participate with, and respect, persons of like and different skill levels.
7-10-PE-4 Participate in vigorous activity for a sustained period of time while maintaining a target heart rate.
7-10-PE-5 Use basic offensive and defensive strategies while playing various sports and games.
7-10-PE-6 List and describe, in writing, short- and long-term physiological, psychological and cultural benefits that result from regular physical activity.
7-10-PE-7 Demonstrate proper warm-up and cool-down exercises.
10-12-FT-1 Demonstrate basic competence in a variety of fitness training activities.
10-12-FT-2 Correctly demonstrate various weight training techniques.
10-12-FT-3 Identify safety factors and correctly demonstrate proper "spotting" techniques for use in the weight room.
10-12-FT-4 Explain, in a journal, the positive physical effects that occur through an individualized weight training program.
10-12-FT-5 Compare and contrast various weight training techniques used by different countries in preparing its athletes for competition.
10-12-FT-6 Explain how nutrition and performance-enhancing drugs affect physical fitness.
10-12-FT-7 Record and graph his/her total weight lifted in the bench press, squat, and power clean on a quarterly basis.
10-12-FT-8 Identify major muscles of the body and how they work in conjunction with weightlifting.
10-12-FT-9 Perform aerobic exercises and identify the muscles used.
10-12-FT-10 Record and graph heart rate, resting and working.
The Lifetime Activities course consists of a variety of life-long
physical activities (for example: croquet, golf, tennis, bowling,
horseshoes, pickleball, racquetball, shuffleboard, badminton,
Ping-Pong).
11/12-LA-1 Engage in both individual and group activities that will promote life-long physical activity.
11/12-LA-2 Write a research paper on career opportunities in physical education and related fields.
11/12-LA-3 Identify a lifetime activity that he/she will pursue and explain why it was chosen.
11/12-LA-4 Identify the historical roles of games and sport in the cultural life of our population.
The Lifetime Exercise course consists of various exercise activities including the following: Tae Bo; stretch and flexing; and beginnerís, high-impact, high-energy, and high-interest aerobics. This will be taught with the help of videos, and guest instructors.
11/12-LE-1 Evaluate, monitor, and improve her/his fitness level.
11/12-LE-2 Compare and contrast, in writing, different fitness programs used throughout the world.
